An Introduction to Bold Path

Hello! I'm Katrina with Bold Path. I wanted to take an opportunity to introduce myself to you. I'm going to be doing a blog once every couple of weeks on different topics related to counselling, such as what to expect in counselling, how to find a good counsellor, how to know if you and your counsellor are meshing, as well as topics that I hear my clients bringing up in sessions, like emotions, thought processes, anxiety, etc. If you are interested in hearing about something in particular, feel free to send me an email and ask! I'd love to hear from you and add any topics to my list. Please keep in mind that all of the blogs are going to be based on my opinions, thoughts, clinical experience, and also my lived experience (because I'm a human, too). Everything I talk about is going to be based on what I've learned doing my own work as a person, and also as a counsellor with my clients.

I also wanted to talk about why I started Bold Path to begin with. The main reason is that I found a bit of a gap in the counselling field in terms of practical counselling being offered. Alot of counselling is focused on trauma, high levels of anxiety, and clinically diagnosable disorders - non-functioning depression, addiction, etc. Those resources are absolutely needed - alot of folks struggle with those things and alot of folks need to get help. But, I wasn't really seeing counselling being offered for practical, day-to-day difficulties that people are facing. Things like motivation and procrastination, emotional reactivity, anger outbursts, or having alot of sadness or fear that drives behaviors. Even things like communication, having arguments with your partner, having trouble connecting with people in your life- things that aren't necessarily clinically diagnosable or heavy, but things that are still impacting your quality life, which is really important to talk about, too. Sometimes these issues can create a "death by a thousand cuts" situation, where maybe it's not that bad right now, but it could get bad if things continue. Accessing counselling and talking to someone who isn't involved in your real life who can give you an objective perspective can be incredibly helpful and valuable, and there's no issue "too small" that should keep you from going to counselling. I've helped clients with decision making - helping them figure out exactly what they want in the situation, and what the action is they need to take to "pull the trigger". I've talked about motivation with going to the gym with clients. Even navigating the transition from being a young adult in your early 20s to an "adult" in your 30s. Phone use, social media use, all these things won't be found in the Diagnostic Statistical Manual, but they're things that you can bump up against in your life that can keep you from being as productive as you want to be, or showing up in your relationships the way you want to. Even being able to have the mental clarity and focus that you want to be able to have with your day-to-day tasks and activities in your life. That's what I want to focus on with Bold Path, offering a space for people to come and chat about those things before it gets to the point where it's really bad, and really negatively impacting you and making your life really difficult.

So that's Bold Path! Again, please let me know what you want to hear about, I'm happy to take suggestions. If you have any questions or thoughts feel free to email me.

Good to meet you, and I'll be back with more at another time. Thanks!

-Katrina
